Granice i ich przekraczanie
Festiwal Transfotografia jest wydarzeniem siostrzanym międzynarodowej imprezy fotograficznej w Lille we Francji. Oba festiwale nie są ze sobą ściśle powiązane programowo i organizacyjnie, łączy je tylko osoba dyrektora, Oliviera Spillebouta.
Koncepcja Transfotografii 2007 była prosta. Zajęliśmy się problemem granic i ich przekraczania. Staraliśmy się pokazać go na możliwie wiele sposobów. Zastanawialiśmy się nad różnymi definicjami pojęcia granic, nad tym, jak znikające stare linie podziału są natychmiast zastępowane przez nowe, wreszcie nad istnieniem granic w sensie innym niż geopolityczny, np. w tożsamości płciowej. Myślę, że poszczególne wystawy mogą sprowokować oglądających do myślenia.
Koncepcję tę udało się wcielić w życie dzięki pracom zaproszonych artystów. Do pełnego szczęścia zabrakło trochę funduszy, ale pewien niedosyt pojawia się zawsze przy organizowaniu tak dużych imprez.
Szwajcarskie schrony i fortyfikacje, współczesne ślady bitwy pod Verdun, krajobrazy Islandii i pustyni Namib, arktyczne oblicze archipelagu Svalbard czy przestrzenie miejskie to tylko niektóre z tematów zdjęć m.in.: Leo Fabrizia, Michaela Ackermana, Oliviera Mirgueta czy Thibauta Cuisseta, zebranych na wystawach drugiego Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Fotografii Transfotografia 2007.
Tematyka tegorocznej edycji pod hasłem « Granice i Przekraczanie » wiąże się z pięćdziesiątą rocznicą podpisania Traktatów Rzymskich, ustanawiających Wspólnotę Europejską, a w rezultacie Unię Europejską. Jubileusz ten stał się okazją do artystycznego przyjrzenia się procesom integracji i zacierania się dawnych podziałów geopolitycznych oraz granicom w sensie wieloznaczeniowym.
Granica bowiem to jednak nie tylko pojęcie geopolityczne. To okres, koniec, limit, ale także początek. Zakłada ona istnienie czegoś dalej, sugeruje przekraczanie, przejście czy rozwój.
Stąd dwa pojęcia wyznaczające główny temat festiwalu Transfotografia 2007 — granice i przekraczanie.
Leo Fabrizio w cyklu « Bunkers » ukazał paradoks Szwajcarii, najbardziej pokojowego kraju na kontynencie, który prawdopodobnie posiada schrony dla wszystkich swoich mieszkańców.

Les frontières et leur dépassement
Le Festival Transfotografia est un événement « sœur » du festival international de photographie à Lille en France. Bien que les deux festivals ne soient pas directement liés par leur programme ou leur organisation, ils sont unis par une personne : le directeur Olivier Spillebout.
Le concept de Transfotografia 2007 était simple. Nous avons commencé avec le problème des frontières et de leur dépassement. Nous avons essayé de montrer autant d’aspects que possible. Nous avons réfléchi aux différentes définitions du concept de frontières, qui non seulement limitent, mais aussi conduisent à des changements importants. Les frontières physiques sont remplacées par de nouvelles, encore plus complexes : frontières mentales, géopolitiques, identitaires, économiques.
Je pense que chaque exposition du festival incite à réfléchir aux idées qui lui sont associées. Le concept s’est bien traduit par les œuvres des photographes invités, des artistes de renommée internationale. Malheureusement, comme toujours avec les grands événements, un manque de fonds a limité le nombre d’invités prestigieux. Mais c’est un défi permanent dans l’organisation d’événements de cette ampleur.
Des abris et fortifications suisses, des traces modernes de la guerre près de Verdun, les paysages d’Islande et du désert de Namibie, les visages arctiques de l’archipel du Svalbard et l’espace urbain de Mexico : ce ne sont que quelques-uns des nombreux sujets des photographies, parmi lesquelles on trouve des œuvres de : Leo Fabrizio, Michaela Ackerman, Olivier Mirguet et Thibaut Cuisset, regroupées dans les expositions du Festival International de Photographie Transfotografia 2007.
La thématique de cette édition intitulée « Les Frontières et leur Dépassement » est liée au cinquantième anniversaire de la signature du Traité de Rome, qui a institué la Communauté économique européenne. Cet anniversaire a été une inspiration à la fois pour réfléchir sur le passé et pour envisager l’avenir. L’événement aborde non seulement le concept de frontières géopolitiques, mais également des notions beaucoup plus universelles.
Les organisateurs ont fait tout leur possible pour garantir un programme diversifié et intéressant, incitant les visiteurs à se poser la question : est-ce que les frontières divisent ou unissent ?
Sur la photo (à droite) : Leo Fabrizio dans son cycle « Bunkers » a mis en évidence le paradoxe de la Suisse, le pays le plus pacifique du continent, qui possède probablement des abris pour tous ses habitants.

Interview with Olivier Spillebout
For the first time, the Franco-Polish Transfotografia festival is being held in the Trójmiasto (Tri-City). The photographs featured in the festival can be seen in clubs, cafés, at the Maritime Station in Gdynia, and at the Old Sugar Factory in Pruszcz Gdański.
Małgorzata Michalczyk: I’ve heard that you have Polish roots…
Olivier Spillebout: My mother’s second husband is Polish. When I was a child, I used to come to Poland on vacation with my mother and stepfather. About four or five years ago, I came to Sopot…
Is that why you organized a photography festival in the Trójmiasto?
- I fell in love with this landscape. Sopot captivated me. Walking through the streets, I constantly see interesting scenes. So I decided that this place was ideal for hosting this type of event. Especially since, unlike Krakow or Łódź, no such initiative had yet taken place here. And I love organizing events. It feels like a natural need for me.
Are you also a photographer?
- Yes. I take portraits, but I don’t show them at the festivals I organize. I keep these two things separate.
The French edition of the festival has already taken place. There were no Polish photographs. Do you plan to present the exhibitions “Now Poland” and “The World Around” in France?
- The Transfotografia festival in Trójmiasto is indeed composed of two distinct parts: one Polish and the other French. The works by French photographers have been shown before, but only in multimedia format. So, this is their debut as a full gallery exhibit. Next year, things might look different… At that time, the “Now Poland” project will definitely be presented in Lille.
